"Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord shall raise him up." James 5:14-16
Anointing Oil
"Father, thank you that according to your Holy Scriptures, your son, Yeshua, took my infirmities, bore my sicknesses and that by his stripes I am healed (I Peter 2:24). I know that you have plans for me to prosper and to be in good health. You are my Great Physician and I praise you and thank you that you desire that I be well and whole. As I anoint myself with oil, I apply the blood of Jesus to every area of sickness or disease in my life and I pray that by your name and the stripes which you bore for me, I am healed. Amen."

WHY & WHEN TO USE BIBLICAL FRAGRANT OIL TODAY:

1) As an act of consecration & dedication, a setting apart for special purpose in God’s kingdom. Houses, structures, articles of worship, clothing & people can be anointed as a sign of consecration to God.

2) As the priests of the home, husbands are encouraged to anoint their wives & children for consecration, protection, peace, pronouncing a blessing upon them as did the Fathers of Old!

3) As a preparation to Bible study, devotional time, fasting, praise and worship.

4) In times of sickness, fear, anxiety, oppression of the enemy, end of mourning, also in foot-washing ceremonies.

5) As bath oil – the olive oil is excellent for your skin and the fragrance is divine.

BIBLICAL FRAGRANCES AND THEIR SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE:

Frankincense: Used on the Altar of Incense in temple times, one of the three gifts brought to Messiah (intercession) ~ Song of Solomon 3:6

Myrrh: Queen Esther bathed in oil of myrrh for six months before her presentation to the King (purification, dying to self and preparation for the KING) ~ Song of Solomon 1:13

“Holy Fire”/Hyssop: Exotic Biblical plant use in religious rituals of the Hebrews (cleansing, purification) ~ Psalm 51:7

Cedars of Lebanon: Fragrant wood use to build the Temple, also to anoint a restored leper’s house (strength, permanence, wholeness, restoration) ~ Psalm 92:12

Pomegranate: Highly prized fruit mentioned in numerous scriptures – motif used to decorate temple, embroidered on high priest’s garment (fruitfulness, abundance, blessings, favor of God). ~ Song of Solomon 7:12

Spikenard: Fragrant oil used by Mary to anoint the head & feet of Jesus (intimacy, extravagant worship). ~ John 12: 2-3

Saffron: Golden spice mentioned as one of the chief spices in the mystical garden described in the Song of Songs (fragrant heart, pleasing to God). ~ Song of Solomon 4:13-14

CONSIDER ANOINTING & CONSECRATING YOURSELF TO THE LORD AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR DAY:

Touch your temples – Father, help me to have the mind of Christ in all things today.

Touch your eyelids – Father, help me to see people, things & situations as you see them. Teach me “to look beyond what I see” in the natural.

Touch your ears – Father, may I hear the still small voice of your Holy Spirit and be sensitive to your leading me this day.

Touch your lips – Father, may I open my mouth with wisdom and may the law of kindness & grace be in my tongue.

Anoint your hands – Father, make my hands like the hands of Jesus today to someone on this earth. Bless the work of my hands today.

Anoint the top of your feet – Father, keep me on the blessed way of your commandments, for I desire to follow hard after you. Thank you for your protection, your wisdom, your guidance, your joy and may your love fill my heart to overflowing this day for the Kingdom’s sake.
